I really don't have anything to bitch about today. It's kind of nice! Gas even went down a couple of cents. Maybe things are looking up.

However, on Friday, I ran over a bungee cord in the road and punctured my tire on the way to my daughter's dentist appointment. They have a policy to charge $50 for missing an appointment without giving them 24 hours notice. I called them from the side of the road half hour before and begged them not to charge me. I really hope that they don't.

Hello! Happy New Year! Hope it's the best one ever.
This year I need to lose 30 lbs. I am going to do this by going on my treadmill every day and limiting carbs. I went on my treadmill today for 34 minutes and burned 250 calories. I ate 3 pieces of turkey sausage, a low-carb yogurt, and some coffee and tea, so I think that I am off to a good start:)

My Cat Was Stuck in a Tree

He was missing; never came home in the morning. Went for a walk down the driveway to search for him before work, but saw no sign of him. At least I did not find a dead cat.

Sitting at the end of the driveway waiting for Lily's bus when I hear, "Rowowowowow!", the same desperate meow we heard when we found him at the dump. I look all around the woods trying to locate the meow, but can't seem to find it. A woman walks by with her dog and stops to help me look. She spots kitty 40 feet up in a tree! How am I going to get the cat down? How am I going to get the cat down before the school bus arrives? Somehow, I talk the cat out of the tree while half the town drives by and wonders why I am talking to a tree. Just as I get the cat in my arms, the school bus goes by, and I run over to the bus with the cat in my arms. Lily never realizes that her cat was missing, stuck in a tree presumably all night.

I just hope the cat learned something.

Lily and I are going to storyland, the one place in the world where I feel that the rides are actually safe. We will be meeting my father and sister there, and plan to cover all 35 acres of park! It should be fun!

We had a bunch of kids over yesterday, and it went great! I had activities planned, but did not need them as the kids all entertained themselves in the inflate-a-pool for an hour. Then, just when we adults were thinking that it was time to get out and eat, the kids all by themselves decided it was time to get out and eat. It was weird how smoothly that all went. After that, the kids had fun beating a Clifford pinata. It just could not have gone better!

Frustrated about work

This would be the cheap outfit I work for. A while back I posted about needing to stop working weekends and start working weekdays, and how I was worried about a pay cut etc. So I was told by my would-be new boss that I would be paid the same as I get now. Then this woman who told me that got fired, and HR sends me an email saying that they are only willing to pay me $1/hour less than I get now since this woman who promised no pay cut is not around to verify what she told me.
THERE IS NO FRIGGING WAY I AM TAKING A PAY CUT!
I have worked for this organization for 7 years and 7 months, received nothing but good reviews, shown up in blizzards etc. They can pay me. And I am not being greedy! I hardly get by on what I make now; how am I supposed to get by on less? The price of my health and dental insurance has gone up, the price of gas has gone up, the price of everything!
So now I am stressed out. If I had known that they were going to pull this shit, I could have been looking for another job for the past 2 1/2 months. My current boss may still come through for me, but she is so busy, and I hate to bother her with my problems.

But the birthday girl wants Clifford. So here I am, trying to get everything I need for a clifford party at one website, trying to find the best price, the best shipping...what a pain in the ass! This is one of those times that I do not enjoy living in the woods! I hate being stuck with the choice of driving far to find a store that has what I need, or paying for shipping. And there are some free shipping deals, but not at the site that has ALL the items I am looking for. Then there is ebay, but again with the shipping; you can get your item for 99 cents, but you end up paying $15 for shipping and handling.

Sometimes I think this frigging thing is just going to disintigrate at my fingertips! Freezes up, with no rhyme or reason. Can't figure it out. My brother blames Windows/Microsoft.

Anyway, here we are on another Wednesday. My daughter is asking to go to Chuck E Cheese, but that won't be happening today. Got to get outside and do some gardening, and clean up inside too.

Trying to plan a birthday party for August 7th. Lily wants Clifford everything, so I am looking for a deal on a pinata on ebay. Of course, as luck would have it, Clifford is just not one of the most popular party themes, and finding the stuff I am looking for is not going that great. The stuff is out there, but shipping is really expensive. I am going to have to break down and buy this stuff soon if I want it to arrive in time. *sigh* Anyone ever buy party supplies online? Any suggestions?

I Ate (almost) The Whole Bloomin' Thing!

Anyone else a sucker for "bloomin' onions"? I took my daughter to the Hillsboro Balloon Fest last night, and just couldn't resist the onion! I only get one once a year, so I don't feel so bad about it. And $6 for an onion? You bet I am going to finish it if humanly possible!

But there was more to the fair than the onion. Lily had a great time riding all the less scary rides with her little friend that we ran into there. She especially loved the giant slide that she had to climb about 3 flights of stairs for and slide down on a burlap sack. After about 10 times on that, and about half an hour before closing time, I dragged Lily out kicking and screaming because it was 9:30pm, and past our bedtimes!

The balloon fest goes on all weekend, but I have to work:(. At least we got one fun night there.

Hello!

My 4th was pretty boring. I woke up with a very painful leg cramp early tyesterday morning, and my leg is still a bit sore. I was tired too from being woken up so early. Lily and I slept in today, but I am still tired.

My problems are pretty insignificant though, compared to what my grandfather has been through. My mom called last night and told me that he went out in his yard to pick some berries, but he got tired standing up. He got a chair to sit in, but when he sat down, the chair fell backwards and he could not get up. He ended up being stuck on the ground for 6 hours with it raining on and off until my uncle got there and heard him yelling for help. Good thing that my uncle brings my grandfather his mail every day. So my grandfather is in the hospital now, and will need a bit of rehab before he goes back home. I hope that he is okay.

Today, I have a staff meeting, and tomorrow, my parents are visiting.

It was a beautiful day at Hampton Beach, NH yesterday: 10 degrees cooler than my town and with a beautiful breeze! Lily, unphased by the icy water, had loads of fun jumping over waves and playing in the sand. It was all perfect until Lil's flip-flops failed her and she went down on the sidewalk skinning her knee (her OTHER knee had just finished healing) and top of her foot. There was some blood, and luckily a beach employee came by with some band-aids. But the day was still great!

They have an annual sand castle competition at Hampton, and we got to see some really amazing sructures. I did not bring my camera though, fearing what the sand and water could do to it. I was searching the net for some pictures, but could only find some from previous years. They are much more amazing in person:)

I helped out at my daughter's school today. they had the field set up with different activities, such as a Slip n'Slide and volley ball (with beach balls) etc. When it was time to go home, Lily did not want to go, and she hid on me. I couldn't find her for about 10 minutes (which seemed like days). I started to cry, and then she appeared. I told her that I was scared and asked her not to do that again, but I can tell that she does not understand what I am upset about, and that she probably WILL do it again.

The survey was a HUGE failure.
In Africa, they did not know what "food" meant.
In Western Europe they did not know what "shortage" meant.
In Eastern Europe they did not know what "opinion" meant.
In the Middle East they did not know what "solution" meant.
In South America they did not know what "please" meant.
In Asia they did not know what "honest" meant.
And in the USA they did not know what "the rest of the world" meant.

Hello! I was going to post Saturday, but discovered that I cannot post from work. First they deny me access to my yahoo mail, now this. Others have been banned from hotmail, ebay and hsn; it is as if the administrators get their kicks out of personalizing it!
Anyway, I was just going to comment on the beautiful weather and how I was happy about it and how there are finally some plants in my garden.

The Flowers are STILL on strike!

Actually, I think the flowers have outright QUIT! And as to when I will be able to plant vegetables, who knows. Anyone who knows me knows that I avoid direct sunlight like the plague, and that I put on sunscreen to run out to the mailbox, but this is ridiculous! May the sun come out soon!

Rain: the pros and cons

I am the first person to complain when it is too sunny out, but even I am missing the sun lately. Sure, I am saving a bundle on sunscreen, but my poor flowers are refusing to bloom:( I live on a big hill, and even when the weather is "normal", my flowers bloom a couple of weeks after my neighbors' who live at the bottom. This year though, the flowers are not blooming at all! I miss my flowers.

And on the one day when it was 80 degrees (when the heck was that anyway?), I discovered that the a.c. in my Jeep needs recharging, so I can put off getting that fixed due to the weather at least. Who knows, maybe I just won't need to get it fixed until next year at this rate!

...and for the 4th day in a row, my husband is here, not working:( I miss my quiet time. Ever since his grandmother died, and he inherited a little money, he works when he feels like it and uses the inheritance money to compensate.

Let's change the subject; does anyone watch LOST? I love it! I hope that they name that baby before next season. Charlie needs to stop calling him "turnip head".

For months, I have been stressing about my work schedule. As I am sure I have mentioned before, I work Fridays 2pm-10pm, Saturdays 7am-10pm, and Sundays 7am-9pm. I took this job because I wanted to be able to both see my daughter off to kindergarten each day as well as pick her up off the bus. Also this schedule has allowed me to volunteer in her classroom one morning per week and help out the PTO one morning per month. I feel that all of this has helped make Lily's transition into school go more smoothly. The down side of it is that my husband hates being the primary caregiver all weekend. So to summarize, this schedule works great for Lily and me, but not for Rich.
So yesterday I talked to my boss to let her know that I needed to find a day job to start when Lily goes to first grade. MY BOSS IS THE BEST BOSS IN THE WHOLE WORLD! Just needed to say that, because there are so many bad bosses out there! So I tell my boss all my concerns, including that I am afraid of getting a pay cut and having to put Lily into an afterschool program, and she says not to worry: she has the perfect job for me, I can start when Lily goes to school, arrange my schedule so that I can still take her to school and pick her up myself, AND she will fight for me so I don't get a pay cut! All this and she still has time to tell me how much she will miss working with me. The world would be so different if there were more people like her. The down side of the new job will be that I have a new boss, but hopefully the new boss will not be that bad.
And hopefully my husband will stop whining about having to function as a real parent for 2 1/2 days out of the week.

Ah...silence!
Lily was on vacation from school last week, and I did not have a quiet moment all week. I am so happy to get "my time" back. She has also been quieter at night since she started amoxicillin for a sinus infection. The poor kid had this horrible cough that would not go away, then she started snoring like a passed-out drunk and I knew it was time to get her some medicine.
I really need to clean my house now. Have a great day!

Update on the long-lost son thing

Well, as I mentioned before, the meeting between my husband, and the child that he was forced to give up for adoption 22 years ago, never happened. We found out that the boy is "overwhelmed", and that is why he has not been returning my husband's phone calls. So hopefully it is just a matter of time before he is ready to meet us.
